User Guidelines

These terms of use, including the disclaimer, apply to online networking using www.healthystart.net.au or www.healthystartnetwork.ning.com.

You agree to follow the following guidelines for contributing online content and accept responsibility for the content you post.  We reserve the right to remove any material posted that we consider dangerous or harmful, and to terminate your participation in online discussion at our discretion by cancelling your registration if you disregard the terms and conditions of use, which form a legal agreement between you and The Parenting Research Centre when you access www.healthystart.net.au online discussion.

Don’t advertise. This website does not endorse commercial products or services. Healthy Start was created to support the practice needs of professionals working with families led by parents who have difficulty learning. Please don’t undermine this mission by advertising for private or commercial interests.

Be respectful at all times. You may have strong feelings about a topic, and you may encounter different or challenging ideas, but show respect to all users of these forums and avoid being rude, abusive or dismissive of others. This includes respect for their race, religion, political views, and other beliefs and experiences. It is illegal to make racist, sexist or homophobic comments, harass or 'stalk' any person, or make defamatory statements or personal attacks on another person. A defamatory statement about a person is one which would make others think less of that person.

PG rating. Avoid swearing as it offends a lot of people. We want everyone to feel welcome, so be as colourful as you like, but keep it clean.

You may be edited. The Parenting Research Centre reserves the right to remove any material determined to be in bad taste. If you follow the terms of use it is unlikely your contribution will be edited.
You can use an alternative name, but don’t impersonate someone else. Honesty supports positive relationships, including online relationships. You must not pretend to be someone else when posting a message, but it is fine to use an internet ‘handle’, which is a label that identifies you without using your real name.

You must not copy. You should use your own words and images or make use of web links to share other’s ideas. Do not copy from books, films, other websites, reports or any other material. Copying or re-producing material may expose you and the Parenting Research Centre to legal action.

Report a problem. A forum moderator will take appropriate steps to address any dangerous, harmful or unauthorised material posted on a forum, but we appreciate your help if you notice a problem before we do. Please help us by selecting the ‘report’ icon and following the prompts.

Use common sense. Remember you are posting to a public website so opinions and information you provide will be accessible to the general public. Be careful not to give out personal details about yourself or anyone else and seek advice before relying on opinions and information you access online.

Your posts become part of the public record. People can access and use information and opinions you make public in posts to online forums. Your permission is not required if people want to re-use, re-produce, research or report on things you have contributed to a forum. Personal information you provide when ‘signing up’ or ‘signing in’ to the Healthy Start online network is protected and will not be disclosed unless required by law under the Privacy Act 1988.

You are responsible for activity under your user name & password. When you ‘sign up’ or ‘sign in’ to contribute to the Healthy Start online network, a user name and password is activated for you.  You are responsible for all activity, including the content of any posts, which occurs under your user name and password.  Please notify us immediately at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
