Best Practice Introductory Workshop

This one-day workshop, full title Best Practice Approaches for Working with Parents with Learning Difficulties: Introductory Workshop, is suitable for a broad professional audience, including managers, policy makers, and practitioners who work with families where parents have learning difficulties. The workshop covers the following:

  • Learning difficulties and parenting – what we know so far
  • Perspectives of intellectual disability and learning difficulties
  • Working with parents with learning difficulties
  • Collaborative relationships
  • Communication
  • Assessment
  • Developing intervention
  • Implementing intervention
  • Lessons from practice

The workshop includes opportunities for active participation and discussion.

A ‘train-the-trainer’ component is also available for this workshop, which will equip professionals to deliver the Best Practice workshop in their local area. Train-the-trainer participants will receive a CD-ROM containing all the materials needed to deliver the workshop (PowerPoint slides, notes, handouts, etc.) as well as telephone support to deliver the workshop.
