Abstract: This paper looks at the issues surrounding the support and welfare service needs of parents with an intellectual disability. It discusses the impact of socio-economic disadvantage on these families and the need for proactive measures to be implemented to prevent their association with Child Protection services. It concludes with discussion of a number of recommendations and issues to assist in the planning and provision of services for families where one or both parents have an intellectual disability.
