Step by Step Baby Care
The Step-by-Step Baby Care DVD supports the specific needs of new parents who have learning difficulties. The DVD can be used as an interactive teaching aide and left with parents to use at home. Skills are broken down into step-by-step components, with repetition and prompts to direct the viewer’s attention to the most important parts of each skill.

Strengthening Every Family
The Strengthening Every Family DVD is a compilation of interviews with parents with learning difficulties. The parents in the DVD talk about their experiences as parents, their experience of the service system and how they best learn new skills.

Parent Programs

Healthy Start for Me & My Baby
The Me and My Baby resource promotes the health and wellbeing of pregnant women with learning difficulties, during pregnancy and childbirth. It includes a book for pregnant women with learning difficulties who use it in consultation with their midwife or pregnancy care worker, at home or in the clinic. The resource includes a guide for practitioners.

Me & My Community
This resource aims to help mothers with learning difficulties to identify their own learning needs and aspirations, and support them to create learning opportunities and connect with resources available in their local communities. It can be run by any experienced group work facilitator committed to strength-based family support.

Understanding and Planning Support Assessment and Planning Approach
The Understanding and Planning Support Assessment and Planning Approach (UPS) is an innovative assessment tool developed to assist practitioners and parents with intellectual disabilities work collaboratively to understand and plan support. The UPS was developed by Dr Margaret Spencer as a doctoral candidate and as part of a research initiative undertaken by the University of Sydney and NSW Family Services, with the assistance of an Australian Research Council Strategic Partnership Industry Research and Training Grant.

Evidence-informed ideas and tips for making a service more accessible for fathers with learning difficulties. Questions posed help to highlight goals for organisational policy and practice change. The aim is to assist services to develop specific recruitment and intervention strategies that target leaning style and communication.

Comprehensive Competence-Based Parenting Assessment for Parents with Learning Difficulties & their Children
Authors Maurice Feldman and Marjorie Aunos in their book Comprehensive Competence-Based Parenting Assessment for Parents with Learning Difficulties and their Children provide examples of approaches to parenting capacity assessment and give a thorough description of best practice in assessment. Published in 2011 by National Association for the Dually Diagnosed (NADD).

Parent Education Practice Guide
This guide supports experienced parent educators and practitioners who have completed Parenting Young Children (PYC) training to develop and use task analyses as a parenting skill assessment and teaching aid. They can be used to highlight a parent's strengths as well as to indicate areas for further development and record progress over time.
